Cigar-seller stock takes Internet roller-coaster ride

Consumer products distributor Krantor Corp.(KRAN - news)
on Thursday became the latest company to see its stock take a Wall Street roller-coaster ride after
announcing plans to begin marketing on the Internet.

On Wednesday, the small, Wexford, Pa.-based distributor said it launched a marketing program on
the Internet for premium, handmade Dominican cigar brands, including a ''buy one, get one free''
special introductory offer.

In response, the stock rocketed, more than doubling in price to $3.75 from around $1.60 at the
Nasdaq opening. Shares closed Wednesday at $3.

But on Thursday, the stock retreated, trading as low as $2 before recovering to $2.25, down 75 cents
by early afternoon, though still well ahead of its price before the announcement.

In addition to its cigar business, Krantor distributes groceries, health and beauty aids, frozen squid and
prepaid phone cards in the United States and the Caribbean.

Krantor's Dominican cigars can be purchased on the Internet at www.krantor.com and other World
Wide Web sites with which the company has created links. The Especial No. 1 brand sells for $115
for a box of 12, while 25 Torpedos are priced at $143.

The introductory offer to Internet customers is being made to kick off the program.

With the assistance of Internet advertising consultants, the company said it has developed consumer
ads that will be launched shortly on the Internet, as well as in national cigar publications and on key
radio stations.

Krantor has joined a long line of companies this spring that have announced Internet marketing plans
and seen their stocks shoot up, with K-tel International Inc. (KTEL - news) perhaps the most
spectacular example.

K-tel -- famous among late-night U.S. TV viewers for its disco, country and easy-listening
compilations -- recently announced plans to begin distributing music online.

In two weeks time, the stock has taken a wild ride to $50 from $6 mid-month before settling back to
$37.50 on Thursday.

KRAN is still junk. Check news on ITSY. (not junk)
