Diamond,
re:<<Any insight into their business? Refrigeration? Huh? >>
Well, if you're looking for oilfield service co.s with some unusual diversification, you might want to check out Lufkin Industries (LUFK). In addition to oilfield pumping units, they do power transmission products, foundry castings (whatever they are), and highway trailers. Maybe we could stick one of Catalina's refrigeration units in a Lufkin trailer and create a beer locker for the rig party.
Anyway, I'd be interested to know if anyone on the thread knows their (LUFK's) oilfield products.
Regards,
John

Momentum, Volume, and Technical Strength: Top 25 Oil Patch Companies

Thanks for the compliments on the last list I posted. Here's another. First, however, I must make clear that I am not much of a believer in TA -- at least, not the way Telescan practices it.

I think that where fundamentals are concerned, past performance is indeed a fair predictor of future performance. For example, a company that in the past has had high eps consistency is more likely to continue being consistent in the future than one that has had a spotty earnings history. (Which is why the former usually commands a premium in the market.)

Where TA is concerned, however, today's favorite can easily become tomorrow's pariah (and vice versa). In the last few contests on this thread (when are we going to have another one?), I submitted Telescan's choices for best/worst price performers, and their choices were way, way wrong! (Hee, hee!)

That said, here goes. First, the definitions:

Short-term Technical Rank. Computed by combining values for 8/17/9 day MACD Histogram; 8/17/9 week MACD Histogram; Relative performance 1 week; Moving Average 30-day; Moving Average 10-day; Percent of Range - Last 5 days.

Long-Term Technical Rank. 8/17/9 week MACD Histogram; Moving Average 200-day; Relative Performance 12-week; 8/17/9 MACD Histogram; Moving Average 50-day; Relative Performance 26-week.

Momentum Rank. Accumulation Distribution Change 1-week, 3-week, and 6-week; Group Rank change 1-week, 3-week, and 6-week; Price Rank Change 1-week, 3-week, and 6-week; EPS Rank change, 13-week.

Volume. Biggest change over last 30 days.

Top 25 will be listed in order, by percentile, according to 1)momentum, 2) short-term tech. rank, 3) long-term tech. rank, and 4) volume. Unfortunately, there is no way to space the numbers on this messaging system, so I apologize in advance for the scrunched-up look.
