We Americans (I believe you are Canadian)live in a country with numerous types of Christians. I do not believe the Protestants want their children to have the same religious education as the Catholics, and on and on and on. Not to mention our growing population of Muslims, Hindus and the large percentage of Jews. Our country was wisely founded on principles of the separation of church and state and religious toleration. America has not always lived up to its charter, but for the most part we do quite well.

The history of Europe is intertwined with the great minds of the past who were frequently skeptics. Many of the most famous minds of history fought against the limited minds of the churches of Europe. Read the recantation of Gallileo. And as you know Western civilization owes a great deal to the Pagan Greeks and Romans. Without Roman organization, the church probably would not have survived. Without the Greeks, would the Renaissance have flowered? Your attempts to justify your blindness and religio-centricity are pathetic. Christianity is fine, as fine as any other religion, but your "eternal Standards of Weights
and Measures---the Holy Bible." is only eternal to you, and people who believe like you. I realize you will never be able to understand or empathize with me the way I do with you- and I pity you for that. You are a closed minded and shallow believer, not an open minded and enlightened one. It is possible to be a rational and educated Christian, but it is a difficult path. I understand why you would not choose it, but you must understand what a small and ridiculous figure you cut. So much different from the man you purport to be spreading the word of. You should let Jesus speak for himself, and humble yourself enough to shut up- you do your faith a disservice by attempting to spread it.

Religious education belongs in religious schools, in churches and at home.

Emile, I have picked up all of my impressions of you from your own posts, and the platform you ran on for political office which was cited here at Feelings a couple of months ago.

Your personal belief system convinces you that Christianity is a superior religion, and apparently that the history of Europe since the Christians is a golden age. You are free to teach all that to your children at home or in church, but I do not wish to support it with the tax dollars I pay for public education for all children. Out here in California we have sometimes children from many continents, speaking eight or ten native languages, in the same classroom. It is only fair in such a diverse culture as America is, that we teach respectfully what contributions come from all over the world, and from many peoples. History is based on truth, not religious belief systems. I wonder if you are aware of all the inventions and discoveries of the Arabs and the Chinese, for example?

I definitely agree that children need to be taught European history, along with the history of all the other continents. Europe is not superior to, or better than, the rest of the world, however. By the time of the Renaissance in Europe, many of the really important inventions of history had already been in existence for thousands of years. We do white, Christian children a real disservice by not sharing all this richness with them.

Of course, when you are teaching European Christian culture to the white, Christian children you know, please remember to tell them all about the Dark Ages, the Crusades, the Inquisition with all those innocent women who were burned to death, and all the other wars and bad feelings that were the result of the polarizations religious fervor created in Europe!!
