David I agree, but still pretty strong words. I have not run across many reports that use the word "solved"! Take a look at this one..looks like early recognition of the problem was the key factor at Bowater. We should all call and congratulate them!! During this effort, the company examined potential problems arising from the inability of certain application software programs to recognize the year 2000. A formal review of all internally developed software was completed in1997. No major problems were encountered. In addition, all major third-party licensed application software programs have been reviewed and are either compliant or have released a compliant version to which the company will migrate during 1998. The costs associated with this project are currently expected to be less than $1 million.

The most time consuming part of Y2K IT work is testing. I'd like to know how much time and what type of tests were performed. If they didn't spend at least 50% of the effort testing, then they are probably kidding themselves, as well as others. Many companies will fail in their Y2K effort because they do not have time to test properly. Many others will fail in their Y2K efforts because they don't want to spend the money on thorough testing.
