On american exchanges stocks with calls written against can be taken at any time. On european exchanges the stock can only be called on the expiration date.

Since I have traded in mainly smaller companies that do not have options over the last fifteen years, I've traded options on only about ten stocks or so. I've only had two get called away and both were at expiration. So that's a good question. You might ask your broker. You can cover as one strategy, but I usually ( actually always ) just wait until the end of the time period because of commissions and knowing up front the risk and return of the covered call. Let me know what he says. I am considering writing some calls against APCO but I can't find the options listing in the paper. Does anyone know the ticker symbol for either June or July 15 calls.
