I should've been more clear.

I meant that the shareholder's equity/share hasn't increased. Growth in BV/share is the main metric I use to judge a company, and it doesn't matter how many shares they repurchase. It's been about $42 at IBM for many years and they've reported earnings throughout that time. The repurchases were a good idea wheen it was grossly undervalued, but now they should only be buying enough shares to cover employee stock options without dilution.
