In this case, you get to have your cake and eat it too... The proposed wireless technology being used by ETSI and NTT is backward compatible with GSM, but the air interface is WCDMA (wideband CDMA). In this instance, LSI is in a perfect position, since they have ASIC products that work with both types of system. I should think that if WCDMA becomes the predominant standard (and that is by no means a given), LSI would be in a very advantageous position with regard to selling chips to the handset developers.
