Friends, investors, developers, lend me your ears;

I come to bury Borland; not to praise it.
The errs that companies do lives after them;
The good is oft interred with their press releases;
So let it be with Borland.

zdnet.com

The noble Berst hath told you Borland was ambitious:
If it were so, it was a grievous fault,
And grievously hath Borland answer'd it.
Here, under the leave of Berst and the rest -
For Berst is an honourable man;
So are they all, all honorourable men -
Come I speak to Borland's name change.
It was my company, faithful and just to me:
But Berst says it was ambitious;
And Berst is an honourable man.
It had brought many different tools from Scotts Valley;
Whose licenses did the general coffers fill:
Did this in Borland seem ambitious?
When that the poor developer had cried, Borland hath wept:
Ambition should be made of sterner stuff:
Yet Berst says it was ambitious;
And Berst is an honourable man.
You all did see that in Delphi, C++ Builder and JBuilder,
We thrice presented it a kingly crown,
Which it did thrice refuse to accept: Was this ambition?
Yet Berst says it was ambitious;
And, sure, he is an honourable man.
I speak not to disprove what Berst spoke,
But here I am to speak what I do know.
You all did love Borland once, not without cause:
What cause withholds you then to mourn for its name change?
O judgement! thou art fled to brutish beasts,
And men have lost their reason. Bear with me;
My heart is in the URL there with www.borland.com,
And I must pause till it come back to me.

Jack Frosch

- forgive me William

"Borland IS the company". I AGREE!!! I don't think that anybody has the right to change a worldwide recognized name. The challange was to take Borland back to the limelight and not to try to sweep the real issue under the carpet. Once when we were trying to estimate what was the inherent value of BORL if the company were to go on sale. Some value was attached to the world wide recognition of the name Borland, maybe more in Europe than in the US, nevertheless it is a respected name among programmars and students. I strongly feel that the present management, while it won't be able to retract from the name change action as that could be damaging, a formula must be found such that the name Borland will continue to live and still be displayed clearly on the companies flag. Go Borland... Ghassan.
