I thought the old one was much easier to read. the color contrast doesn't work well. Try blue and green instead of yellow and purple/maroon.
The human eye is most sensitive in the yellow-green and not in maroon, so it picks up anything with the yellow background first.

Now, if you want people to visit your site, you need to put stuff they use on a daily basis on the front page, or accessible with not more than one link from the front page. Recommend things like Economeister, Ed Yardeni's web site, yahoo finance, ICEFI, some stock-charting links and a link to ADRs and foreign markets- A megasite of favorite financial/economic data resources.
