Radio Shack and BTO plans:

I went by Radio Shack yesterday and the store manager told me how they are implementing the BTO plan.

They will be getting a display computer with different processers in the box. Then there is a switch that they can throw that will allow the user to see the difference in the effect of the different processers. Then the PC will be ordered on a BTO basis rather than stocked at the store. The BTO order will be the exact configuration that the customer requests.

Time will tell how the implementation of the system gives the customer a hands on feel and comfort of selecting a PC and selling it.

He also tells me that the Compaq PC's they got in March seem to be selling better than the IBM that they used to sell before March.
