Jane,

Thank you for your kind thoughts. I, of course, have no misconceptions that life is just naturally unfair. And, perhaps, one of the highest ideals is to treat others fairly. Coming from a capitalist culture, I would never put fairness above freedom. For example, I think you pointed out a few posts ago a few of the more fanatical "Great Levellers". An interesting parallel is that Jesus is characterized (by John the Baptist) as the axe (a fanatical[?] implementation of the ideal), but end ups being the lamb of sacrifice (an empathetic[?] implementation of the ideal).

Be you a king or a just street sweeper, soon or later, you dance with the reaper.

Hmmm... I don't think I've ever heard what happened to the Knights Templar referred to as the Crime of the Millennium. I can think of a few more heinous deeds than what, if I remember correctly, Philip of France did to the Templars. Not to say what happened to them was in any way right, but then, how do you weigh such things. I'm not going to get Emile started on the Holocaust again, so that's all I've got to say about that. ;-)

As much as I enjoy the television show "Millenium", I don't think the time is near. I don't see a bad moon risin', so to speak. Are there bad things happening locally and globally? Yes. Have there always been? Yes. Will there always be? Unfortunately, probably, yes; but that doesn't mean we can't try to do good things and mitigate the bad. :-)
