Hi Zeuspaul, Dirk & Spots,

Want to let you know the outcome of the Kristi crisis;-)

With my husband's help(he's more adept with computers than I) we followed your instructions and reset our machine to 16 bit. The box finally disappeared and the CD-Rom began. There was Kristi introducing her program and flitting around the ice, music was playing. However, when it came time to choose one of the buttons to proceed with the game, we discovered we didn't have control of the mouse. We kept clicking but nothing further happened.

Then Jim noticed the list of system requirements in the User's Manual.
It requires 16MB RAM and we have 8MB RAM. So, it's a bigger handicap than the 16 bit color one.

Suppose Kristi will just have to wait until we're ready to upgrade.

Sincere thanks for all your help. Changing the color depth did give me an idea what the program is like. My niece started ice skating lessons a few weeks ago, and, eventually, she will really enjoy this program.

This is a helpful, hospitable forum. Many other SI threads should come here for human relations training;o)

Best wishes,

Ann

Dealing with the 7 Versions of Win95

The following link is the best and most straight forward guide to updating/upgrading Win95, that I've come across. Its what MS should have done a long time ago (This is NOT MS site).

The site gives you all the gory details of each and every Win95 UPD but also allows a simple foolproof approach: select which of the seven versions you have; jumps to select user options (IE 4 or not, want DUN 1.2 or 1.2b, want winsock2 etc) and then jumps to the specific files for you to DL.

NOTES: Use a Hi Res when viewing this site. Also click and DL List QFE and Win95 Ver. These are two files hot linked in the first or second sentence of the page.

Win95 Ver will determine which version of Windows you have and List QFE will either print or save to a file, your current UPDs installed (great for keeping track of updates)

Also note that redundancies have been removed. Install the updates in order specified. And do NOT stack reboots if you wish to install without problems.

Hope this eases upgrades for you as it has for me.
