Thanks. Considering that transfering securities from a regular brokerage account wasn't an option on any of the online Roth IRA applications that I've seen, I thought it was unlikely and/or the brokerages didn't want to deal with complications with the possibilty of say 500 shares of a $4 stock, going up to say $5-$6 on the transfer date exceeding the $2000 limit.

Considering as how I don't want to churn my stocks (sell for cash/buy in IRA) and incur an automatic 10% loss in # of shares (due to the difference between the bid/ask), I'll use an alternative source. It's just that the stocks I want in my IRA are the ones I already own, guess I'll buy more of the stocks I like :-)
