microwave ovens are irrelevant :-)

There is little impact to society if microwaves, VCRs, digital watches, personal home PCs, and even FAX machines stop working at the turn of the century.

If you want to effectively discredit Y2K as hype, please focus on systems that would really mess up our economy if they fail. Such systems include:

(1) FAA Air Traffic Control system
(2) Electrical power generation and distribution
(3) General Motors ability to manufacture automobiles
(4) International trading and banking systems

It's all these big systems, plus the usual time required to make changes to them, that makes me take Y2K seriously.
