<<As for PFE being the DELL of the drug sector ... here's an analogy. While DELL may
be the bellweather of the boxmakers, GTW ran up 28 points on relative valuation basis
with at less risk than DELL in the current market. >>

for the record, during the same period GTW ran up 28 points (from 01/21) DELL has run up 78 points, there is very little difference and they pull back in similar fashion during this run up - i dont see GTW being less risky than DELL - quite the contrary.

GTW has laid off people in 4th qtr, who knows if they would do that again ? can they be profitable going forward ? dont forget they missed big time last fall.

DELL has increased its employees from 11000 to 16100 in 1997 alone and they are hiring 150 people a week this quarter - running huge ads in both austin and houston - from system testing engineers to sales staff. Giving DELL's JIT in everything, its business must be growing like weed for it to increase its payroll in such a rate. it just finished a building first time totally designed from scratch to fit its JIT model. about 30 loading docks surrounding the building, and get this, parts belong to the vendors until it is unloaded from the trucks parked right outside the loading dock. the entire process of building and testing a pc is down to 4-5 hours. totally astonishing. it had 7.8 billion revenues in 1997 and is projected to have 12.3 billion revenues in 1998.

from today's Houston Chronicle, i am sure Houston is proud of its native son, although CPQ is also born in Houston. chron.com
