Networm - I agree 120% ! What you see is what you get.

Couple of years ago was involved in a facility conversion contract with DoD for major contractor. One aspect was a CAD lab, lots of 19" workstations under well-aged fluorescent lights, high absenteeism, BIG bottles of generic aspirin on shelves, etc. As part of our make-over, we removed most lights, replaced the remaining fluorescent ballasts with electronic units (for a flicker-free light) relamped with new C50 Chroma bulbs (true color) added task lighting.

All monitors replaced with Sony GDM-20SE's (nice unit, not cheap) as part of the workstation upgrade. The aspirin bottles disappeared!

Rather than sitdown desks along the wall, we did standup height stations facing across the room. Users found that their eyes became less tired by being able to focus on distant objects as an alternative to near-field screens.

I digress ! Point is well-taken. See it and compare before you buy !
(Especially in the low-price stuff, may be good for graphics, yuk for text, especially at higher resolutions.

IMO, LCD is the way to go, just way overpriced at this point in time.

>>displaying the types of apps you will be using (and at the res you will use).<<

I would add using your intended video card.

Well said but not so easy to do. I have been looking at 21 inch monitors. I have compared the Viewsonic P815 to other monitors in the same display set. Sometimes it appears to be the worst monitor in the group. I fiddle with the controls and can not improve it much. I return on another day and it appears to be the best in the group.

I have done a little research on the monitor. Turns out the monitor only shows its best with a few high end video cards.

The comparisons in the computer stores are flawed to the extent that they are not using the same video signal and resolution and application that the user will use.
