nStor(tm) Corporation, Inc., (AMEX:NSO), a leading manufacturer of RAID subsystem and information storage solutions, today announced they will be showcasing their new CR8F and CR18F Fibre Channel storage solutions at the Networld+Interop (N+I) show in Las Vegas, May 5-7, 1998. nStor will also be displaying several other new cross-platform products including a Network Attached Storage (NAS) module option for the award-winning CR8e and CR8j, the CR8T AIT-based tape array subsystem, the CR8L Ultra2 low voltage differential SCSI (LVDS) RAID subsystem, and their enhanced AdminiStor(tm) Storage Management software. nStor's booth is located in the Front Hall, Booth No. 8569. nStor products will also be on display at N+I in the following booths: Adaptec, Inc. (Booth No. 3299 - displaying CR8e); Creative Design Solutions, Inc. (Booth No. 1914 in Start Up City - displaying CR8j with Network Attached Storage module); Mylex Corporation (Booth No. 5577 - displaying CR8L); and the Fibre Channel Loop Community booth (Booth No. 129, Seagate Stand - CR8F).

"The addition of Fibre Channel, LVDS and NAS provides nStor customers with a complete array of storage solutions to offer network administrations the maximum bandwidth, availability, scalability and connectivity they need to meet their storage objectives, regardless of operating system platform or storage technology," said Steven Paulhus, director of marketing for nStor Corporation. "All of nStor's products offer users a level of I/O performance commensurate with the processing power found in networked and clustered server environments, making them ideal for multimedia, video, web, and online transaction processing environments."

The CR8F is an external eight-bay enclosure available in either a tower or rack-mount configuration that supports 4GB, 9GB, or 18GB fibre channel disk drives (both 7,200 and 10,000 RPM), providing up to 144GB of high-performance storage in a single CR8F. For maximum scalability, up to sixteen (16) CR8F enclosures can be combined on a single Arbitrated Loop offering over 2TB of fast, secure and reliable data storage.

nStor's new CR18F, the industry's highest density storage solution, is an OEM-grade rack-based enclosure designed to maximize the number of gigabytes of storage per cubic inch, housing an unprecedented eighteen (18) disk drives in a single 4-U footprint. Utilizing 4GB, 9GB or 18GB disk drives, the CR18F offers up to 324GB of storage in one rack. Engineered to incrementally boost performance and availability through a modular design, up to ten (10) CR18F's can be accommodated in a single 72" enclosure, representing 3.2TB of fast, secure and reliable data storage.

The robust enclosure design of both the CR8F and the CR18F features a cable-less, passive dual Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop (FC-AL) backplane that provides the maximum level of reliable fault tolerance and performance. The enclosures feature data transfer rates up to 200MB/second, support for up to 126 devices in a single loop, and redundant hot-swappable disk drives, fans, power supplies and loop resiliency circuits (LRCs). nStor's unique hot-swappable LRC I/O cards handle the fibre channel re-timing and clock recovery on both the transmit and receive signals, and act as an active hub for cabinet daisy chaining. This eliminates signal degradation (jitter transfer) which can result in unreliable loop operation hangs when an enclosure simply relies on the drives to re-time the signal. Cable lengths up to 30 meters utilizing a copper interface or up to 10 kilometers utilizing fibre optics are also supported. When combined with a Fibre Channel PCI RAID controller, both enclosures offer the maximum in system flexibility and fault-tolerance, including RAID support. nStor's powerful AdminiStor(tm) Management software utilities provide easy set-up & configuration, management and monitoring of disk drives, fans, power supplies and temperature. Both Fibre Channel products are scheduled for shipment in June, 1998. Pricing will be announced at a later date.

CR8L - nStor's new Ultra2 (LVDS) RAID Subsystem

The CR8L, nStor's low voltage differential SCSI (LVDS), or Ultra2 RAID subsystem will also be unveiled at N+I. Designed to support a variety of flexible configuration options such as RAID levels 0, 1, 3, 5, and 0+1, a PCI controller, and 7,200 or 10,000 RPM disk drives, the CR8L is ideal for both the PC LAN and UNIX environments. Featuring Ultra2-SCSI performance (transfer rates up to 80/MB per second), scalable storage capacities over 2 terabytes, improved fault tolerant features, and advanced monitoring and management software, the CR8L is the perfect storage solution for file servers, web servers, on-line transaction processing, document imaging and digital video delivery systems.

CR8T - nStor's new TAPE ARRAY

Also on display at N+I will be nStor's new CR8T tape array, a high capacity, high-performance, fault-tolerant backup and recovery system for the Windows NT environment. The CR8T tape array combines up to eight Sony hot-swappable AIT drives into one subsystem, providing users with up to 400GB (compressed) of fast, protected backup storage in a compact 3.5-inch form factor. To maximize fault-tolerance, the OEM-grade CR8T enclosure also features redundant, hot-swappable power supplies and fans. "As the demand for additional data storage continues to grow within the enterprise, the demand for high performance and fault-tolerant backup solutions is also increasing," added Paulhus. "The CR8T provides our customers with excellent reliability, performance and capacity, making it the ideal backup and recovery system for today's demanding storage environments."

nStor's new Network Attached Storage Option

nStor will also be debuting their new Network Attach Storage (NAS) module option for the CR8e and CR8j storage enclosures at N+I. Designed for easy plug-and-play integration into a drive bay of the CR8e or CR8j enclosure, the hot-pluggable NAS 'thin-server' offers user-level security and uncompromised Network File Systems (NFS) support for high performance, transparent file serving between Windows NT and UNIX platforms. The fault-tolerant NAS module increases network storage capacity and frees up the network host from I/O bottlenecks that diminish performance.

AdminiStor Storage Management Software

nStor's enhanced AdminiStor(tm) Management Software, featuring a Java-based applet designed to provide remote monitoring and management capability from anywhere in the world via the Internet, will also be on display. nStor's storage management philosophy is to provide system administrators with enterprise-wide RAID management and monitoring capabilities with a common interface across multiple platforms, including Novell NetWare, Windows NT, Silicon Graphics-IRIX, and Sun Microsystems Solaris. AdminiStor is included free with all CR8e, CR8L, CR8F and CR18F subsystems.
