InSook:

Also service is essential to sell these products.
Unlike the days of shrink-wrap, to sell these thingies
to the enterprise you need to first teach your customer how
to use them and what the benefits are. Gone are the days
when Borland used to sell 100,000 copies of each piece of
software and the languages were "easy". Now they are playing
(with middleware) in big boy land.

So do you know the difference between what Inprise has to
offer and what IONA has to offer in terms of product lines
etc.? That is is anything that Inprise is offering
"special" or "unique" in terms of products or their business
model?

IONA is growing fast but q. revenues are still small -
around 12-15 million/q. or so last time I checked. About
20-35% of the revenue is svc. related (again I'll have to
check).

But the gist is that if IONA considers svc. to be so
essential (and the revenue %ges suggest it is) then Inprise
needs to do the same. And it looks like Inprise does indeed
realise this.
