More good news:FORE Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: FORE), a
global supplier of networking solutions based on an Intelligent
Infrastructure(TM), today announced that the ForeRunnerHE(TM) 622 ATM PCI bus
adapter shattered all previous performance marks for adapters in recent tests.
In the tests, which were conducted by The Tolly Group, a strategic consulting
and independent testing organization based in Manasquan, NJ, the HE 622
achieved an aggregate, full-duplex throughput of over 1 gigabit per second on
the Sun Solaris platform.
The benchmark tests were performed on adapters running on Microsoft
Windows NT and Sun Solaris platforms. Using standards-based ATM LAN Emulation
(LANE), the ForeRunnerHE 622, delivered aggregate, full duplex throughput of
575 Mbps on Windows NT 4.0 and 1.004 Gbps on Solaris. Detailed results will
be published in The Tolly Group document 8277 by 5 May 1998 at
tolly.com.
"This is the fastest server adapter we've tested yet, delivering aggregate
bidirectional throughput in excess of 1 Gbps," commented Kevin Tolly,
president and CEO of The Tolly Group. "Furthermore, this adapter provides
industry-standard LANE and extended packet sizes that help optimize server CPU
use."
In addition to superior bandwidth performance, the ForeRunnerHE 622
successfully demonstrated FORE's Application QoS (Quality of Service) or
Layer 4 switching functionality, which allows users to dynamically control
multiple network sessions and enables weighted priorities so that the most
important users or network sessions are provided access to the resources they
require. This is particularly important when multiple mission-critical
applications or users are vying for access to the same Intranet or database
server.
"These tests demonstrate the real-world benefits of proven, standards-
based ATM solutions, which are deliverable today, versus the promises of other
technologies," said Ron McKenzie, vice president of strategic marketing for
FORE Systems. "Furthermore, these tests confirm that FORE's Intelligent
Infrastructure is the ideal solution for delivering the right level of
performance to multiple users on a network. Unlike competing manufacturers
and technologies, our solutions continually manage network access to optimize
performance for all users and applications."
Released in October 1997, the ForeRunnerHE 622 ATM adapter is the
industry's most advanced ATM adapter for ultra-speed backbone-server
connections. With the ForeRunnerHE 622, users can connect servers directly to
an ATM backbone for maximum performance from their enterprise network, whether
across the room or around the world.
