PALO ALTO, Calif., and HOPKINTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 4, 1998--

HP to Provide Integrated Solutions that Combine EMC Symmetrix

Enterprise Storage with UNIX System and Windows NT Servers from

HP

Hewlett-Packard Company and EMC Corporation today announced they have expanded the terms and scope of their strategic relationship to take advantage of increasing demand for integrated computing and storage solutions among HP's enterprise customers. HP now will offer EMC's Symmetrix Enterprise Storage systems solutions with its Intel-based HP NetServer systems, the industry-leading platform for Windows NT(R). Currently, HP is the leading reseller of EMC's Symmetrix systems for UNIX(R) system environments, selling Symmetrix systems with HP 9000 Enterprise Servers.

By including the Windows NT platform, the companies are broadening the market for their joint solution. The combination of Symmetrix Enterprise Storage systems and HP NetServer systems will provide Windows NT customers with one-stop shopping for robust, high-availability enterprise solutions.

Robert Dutkowsky, EMC's executive vice president of markets and channels, said, "The success of this relationship is the direct result of HP and EMC's focus on the customer and our mutual commitment to deliver industry-leading enterprisewide solutions. By complementing HP's high-end servers and high-availability computing applications with EMC's Symmetrix Enterprise Storage systems, HP is providing thousands of customers with mission-critical OLTP and data-warehousing solutions."

In addition to joint sales efforts, EMC and HP also are sponsoring a series of customer seminars highlighting their combined enterprise solutions. In November 1997, EMC became a partner in HP's Mission Critical Server Suites program. This enabled HP to include Symmetrix as part of its set of business solutions known as "99.95 percent uptime high-availability (HA) foundation configurations."

"This contract expansion demonstrates that a successful relationship based on collaborative R&D and customer commitment can deliver storage systems that integrate with and complement HP enterprise servers to provide a complete business solution," said Art Lane, general manager of HP's Enterprise Storage Solutions Division. "The technology leadership and integration expertise of HP and EMC provide HP customers with benefits that our competitors simply do not offer."

The original 1995 reseller agreement between HP and EMC enabled HP to resell EMC's Symmetrix 3000 Enterprise Storage systems as the high-end storage solution for HP 9000 Enterprise Servers. The relationship now has been expanded to include HP 3000 systems, Fibre Channel technology and strategic software products from both companies.
