Stockroach, I'd say it looks substantial. The real comparison will be to the parts out of nVidia and 3Dfx, as that's who S3 really competes against for those add-in board slots. Matrox, & ATI are vertically integrated, so are somewhat less direct competitors. As info comes pouring out of all these companies over the next several weeks, I'll be doing some detailed comparisons myself.

First blush is that the Salvage3D looks interesting. Certainly the big board builders will give it a work out.
