Second Wave of Simultaneous Branding Study Finds Hewlett-Packard Has Strongest Brand, Followed by 3Com and Microsoft

MANHASSET, NY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 4, 1998-- Hewlett-Packard
(NYSE:HWP - news) narrowly edged-out 3Com and also Microsoft as the leading
brand in the US business technology market, according to the latest wave of a CMP
Media Inc./Interbrand Inc. study called 'The Power of Simultaneous Branding 1998.'
In addition, the just-completed study revealed that Bay Networks (NYSE:BAY -
news), Dell Computer Corp. (NASDAQ:DELL - news) and Cisco Systems
(NASDAQ:CSCO - news) posted the greatest gains in brand equity over last year's
study while most others remained relatively stable. Netscape Communications and
Novell (NASDAQ:NOVL - news), however, posted the greatest declines.

The study, which launched last year, included more than 6,400 interviews with
business/enterprise and channel professionals -- one of the largest technology branding
studies ever conducted, and the only one that examined brand equity in both the
enterprise and channel markets. The research measured 46 brands across eight
product categories, and against more than 20 key metrics.
