What do you make of the idea of STB SPECS in 98?

I think the idea of a set of standards is good, but my experience is that it takes a while to get industry consensus and that it follows the least-common-denominator rule, meaning to allow as many suppliers as possible to play, the standard is purposefully made "simple." This bothers some companies with innovative ideas, and possibly patents, that they can't openly exploit in the marketplace.

I did see that SFA's STB is OpenCable compliant .... I hope they made it online-upgradeable !

Do you think this will stall the COMCAST announced 98 rollouts if they are real ? and do you read the 2 "roll-outs" sites as roll-outs or trials ? I can't recall if COMCAST has trialed over the last 5 years. I will check.
