Vari-L Company Receives ISO9001 Certification

Designation Assures Customers of Product Quality, Gives Company Stronger International
Marketing Presence

DENVER, May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Vari-L Company, Inc. (Nasdaq: VARL - news), a leading provider of advanced
components for the wireless telecommunications industry, today announced the International Standards Organization has
awarded ISO9001 certification to the Company for its commercial products.

The primary scope of the ISO9001 standard is to ensure that a company's quality assurance systems are organized to produce
consistent levels of durability and excellence in the company's products. The standard covers every phase of a product's life
cycle, from design to manufacturing to servicing, and requires an appropriate combination of statistical, engineering,
management and motivational effort. The International Standards Organization awarded Vari-L ISO9001 certification after an
approximately three-month audit of the Company's quality assurance systems.

Dave Sherman, president and CEO of Vari-L, said, ''The ISO9001 designation is a highly visible benchmark assuring Vari-L's
customers that we are taking every step to meet and exceed their demanding specifications. The program allows all of the
Company's personnel to participate in constructing a superior-quality product, creating a motivational atmosphere which
ultimately benefits the Company and our customers.''

Sherman also noted that continuous follow-up inspections by the International Standards Organization will preclude the need
for Vari-L's potential customers to conduct their own audits of the Company's facilities and procedures. ''This should
significantly streamline the 'getting- acquainted' period with our customers and give them a strong sense of confidence as we
start to build a long-term relationship.''

He added, ''ISO9001 is recognized worldwide as the leading indication of product quality and reliability, providing Vari-L with
enhanced credibility as we explore emerging commercial wireless markets across the globe. We expect the designation to be an
immense aid in our ongoing efforts to increase international revenues.''

Through its headquarters in Denver, Vari-L designs, manufactures and markets a wide range of radio frequency and microwave
signal processing components used in the wireless telecommunications industry for both commercial and military applications.
Vari-L serves a diverse customer base comprised of some of the world's leading technology companies, including Ericsson,
Hughes, IBM, Lockheed Martin, Lucent Technologies, Magnavox, Mitsubishi, Motorola, NEC, Nokia, Northern Telecom,
QUALCOMM, Raytheon, Samsung, and Texas Instruments.

Some of the statements contained in this news release are forward-looking statements. The accuracy of these statements cannot
be guaranteed as they are subject to a variety of risks, including but not limited to the success of the products into which the
Company's products are integrated, governmental action relating to wireless communications licensing and regulation, internal
projections as to the demand for certain types of technological innovation, competitive products and pricing, the success of new
product development efforts, the timely release for production and the delivery of products under existing contracts, future
economic conditions generally, as well as other factors.
