Ken,
I just gotta tell you, that was such excellent advise. I am working very hard at getting ready to retire and DELL is a prominent factor. It does sound like you had the distinct advantage of having a retirement plan at GTE. At 47 I am seeing what age discrimination really is but there is no corporate retirement, save a 401(k) which I am at a loss to understand how a company can call "your" 401(k) "their" retirement plan. Talk about big business! At any rate my 2 cents for all, as applicable, is plan on your own retirement on your own assets. Don't count on any retirement plans, social security or magic happening.

Ken - OT: thanks for sharing some of the details of your life and the accumulated wisdom. (Sorry to hear about your wife; I lost my Mother in a similar fashion in '81.)

I'm looking to get outta the race asap but won't 'til the money thing is done. My wife and I have a home in Montana and that's where I'm going to hang my hat. (Winters excluded)

'Til then, trading time for money in the movie biz.

Peter

Ken -
Thanks for a great post and great thoughts. I took the same route last year about this time (looking to my 50th birthday), maybe not quite so aggressive as you as I cut down to basically 1 day a week. I keep my hand in just to keep a seat at the big table and keep my knowledge and skills fresh, put in the other 6 days with my family. The change in my outlook is wonderful, just wonder if maybe I should have pulled the plug a few years earlier.
