Im sure these questions could be answered & wonder if we called WSTL while everyone is out of town just what kind of answers we might get. <g> I haven't listened to any of the conference calls & hope that someone asks these next time around.

<This demonstration will show the first commercially available DSLAM to support both Carrierless Amplitude Phase Modulation (CAP) and DMT DSL technologies operating simultaneously in the same system.>

Here is the meat. Cap & full blown DMT w/ a chipset not a single dsp.

<The Westell DMT ADSL system on display is based on Texas Instruments' versatile Digital Signal Processing (DSP) based DSL chipsets and supports T1.413 Issue 2, Category 2 performance (up to 8 Mbps) within the ATM based SuperVision architecture.>

& here is the potatoes. This ain't adsl lite?

<The DMT solution will be demonstrated jointly by Westell, Texas Instruments (booth #4417) and Lucent Technologies (booth #2023) on May 5-7 in the Las Vegas Convention Center.>

Ya need the 5ESS switch in some places.

<Westell's DMT solution has been developing rapidly since Westell's agreement was signed with
Texas Instruments late in 1997. The partnership combines a powerful DSP based implementation,
capable of downloading evolving DSL standards (i.e., G.lite),>

Kinda sounds like USRX <G> Hope it works!

<with the Westell SuperVision DSLAM platform which reduces ADSL installation costs by consolidating the many ADSL lines coming from homes and businesses into a single network interface for processing through the ATM network.>

Lets hope this is true. Its adds creditability to Dr. Tech's pricing scenario. Latter this year?

<''Westell is pleased to be joined by our partners Lucent and Texas Instruments at Networld + Interop to showcase to the world the advantages of ADSL as the solution for achieving true
high-speed Internet, remote LAN access and video applications,'' said Marc Zionts, Chief Executive Officer, Westell, Inc. ''Collaborations such as these with Lucent and Texas Instruments show the strong commitment we have between our companies to rapidly bring standards compliant, interoperable DMT solutions to market.''>

He left out GTE. <VBG>

<Lucent Technologies and Westell have previously announced plans to integrate Westell's DMT ADSL system into the Lucent 5ESS switch. Lucent and Westell are also working together to integrate Westell's SuperVision technology into Lucent's SLC Systems. Both of these solutions will enable service providers to reduce operating costs and enhance their current infrastructure with ADSL capability.>

The LU relationship is getting even stronger? The LU switch is all over the Eastern US!

<Also, Westell will show how it is addressing the needs for simple, fast installations in customer locations with an ''Easy Installation of ADSL'' presentation in the Westell booth. An extremely important component of all Westell ADSL products is easy installation, insuring the service provider cost savings and the subscriber time savings. Westell will demonstrate how quickly and easily the consumer can connect their Westell ADSL modem directly to their computer and immediately start using it to achieve speeds that may be as much as 300 times faster than their current modems.>

More fluff? Its not that hard to install a modem!!!

<Westell will also feature the capabilities of Westell WorldWide, the company's ADSL services subsidiary, and Westell's FastKey accelerated Rate Adaptive DSL deployment program. Westell Worldwide Services is focused on providing turnkey DSL solutions for Telco's, Competitive Local Exchange Carriers (CLECs), Internet Service Providers (ISPs), commercial real estate developers, hotels, universities and other early adopters of DSL technologies.>

I kinda like this. Service w/ a smile :} Won't find that many places now days.

<In addition, Westell will highlight Conference Plus, the company's multi-point multimedia voice, data and video teleconferencing services subsidiary. Conference Plus provides privately branded commercial teleconferencing services to many local and long distance network carriers, as well as one of the nation's largest Regional Bell Operating Companies (RBOCs).>

Can you say ISO certified. :}

<in addition to demonstrating its ADSL technology in the Westell booth, the Texas Instruments booth and the Lucent booth, Westell's products will also be featured in GTE Communications' booth
(#4577) and the ADSL forum's HOTSPOT consortium (booth #2491). In the ADSL Forum's HOTSPOT, Westell will demonstrate interoperability with RedBack Networks' SMS1000 and will be demonstrating broadband video streaming over the Internet.

GTE will be using Westell's FlexCap2 to demonstrate applications such as an innovative 3-Dimensional browser enabling the coupling of video, music and interactive chat sessions as well as e-commerce. Westell and GTE have partnered to bring powerful, high-speed Internet access solutions to building and campus environments around the United States. GTE's OnSite program allows tenants and residents to experience Rate Adaptive DSL speeds at a fraction of the cost of
other technologies. ''We are also very pleased to have GTE exhibiting our ADSL systems at N+I '98; we are jointly working together to demonstrate the advantages of our ADSL system in the home or business environment.'' added Westell CEO Marc Zionts.>

There's GTE. <g> Did ya know the AT&T outage recently, was a Frame relay switch.

Food for thought.

1 Ala has stated they are going head to head w/ Lu.
2 Ala has problems. Read the Network World article
3 Ala needs Coms & Cisco. HMMMMMM
4 Lu needs a solution to compete w/ Cisco's ADSL
5 Lu is having problems w/ its chipsets?
6 Ti is having problems w/ its chipsets?
7 Pair is having problems w/ its chipset?
8 Mot ?
9 Why does Lu need Awre patents?
10 Does Pair need Awre patents?
11 Ya can't run video w/ 1.5 mps.
12 Asnd is updating GTE's network.
13 The LU VP that spoke at H&Q is going out w/ Bender & Semans. :}

Kevin thanks for the links & I saw the Mickey Soft thang. How convientient of Bill. FWIW, I have fiber in the back yard & this is on the fringe of one of the most remote parts of the country but don't think I can have the 1.5 they offer just yet. They may still need FCC approval. Its ok w/ me though, I wouldnt pay more that $20 a month including my ISP charge.

Have a good evening all,

Dug
