Fred, It is true that the odds are against a manager who tries to outperform. But it is certain that index buyers will not perform well enough over a long period of time to reach their goals. The average, after all, cannot outperform the average. And the average investor, by definition, cannot get rich. Only the exceptional can. So, I still think it is worth while to try to be exceptional, as average is so danged boring. <G>
