Actually, there is a "California right", where you can take a right at a red light after stopping and checking traffic coming down the street you are turning onto. I think it's pretty common everywhere now, but Cal, was first. Actually, the drivers here are still reasonably good compared to New York or Boston drivers, i.e., if they learned to drive here as kids.
