Gary, are you suggesting that Amzn customers wouldn't leave their PC's because of bad
weather, or maybe Amzn didn't get to Borders until April.

H,

I suspect there was a general slow down in book sales in April for all operations. Books are seasonal. People read them more during winter months when spending a lot of time outside would not be comfortable. Spring comes and out door activities increase and time for reading decrease.

Whatever happened it seems that Waldenbooks seems to be the first to be affected
negatively, during America's insatiable appetite for books.

This reflects a trend in retail land based sales. The "hot spots" use to be the malls. People are changing. They prefer not to go to a mall where the traffic takes them 20 minutes to get in and out of the parking lot. Strip plazas, free standing superstores and similar retail outlets have growing sales. Mall stores as a rule have decreasing sales. All the Waldens are in the malls.
