HONG KONG --- A high-profile weeklong crackdown on pirated digital videodisc ( DVD ) manufacturing wasn't enough to keep Hong Kong off the U.S. government's latest copyright piracy watch list. U.S. Trade Representative Charlene Barshefsky on Friday kept Hong Kong on the list of countries to watch. In addition, she ordered that Hong Kong face another review in September. The move comes as a slap in the face to Hong Kong officials, who feel that they have taken extraordinary steps to put an end to the piracy epidemic. Just last week they raided dozens of factories and seized more than 10 million bootlegged DVDs as well as the equipment used to make them. "We are not a complacent government," said Trade and Industry Secretary Chau Tak-hay, the former secretary for broadcasting. He called Barshefsky's report "unfair and inaccurate."
