Big bandwidth on the way...

Ideas like WAVX's only make economic sense if there were bandwidth big enough to make downloading of software efficient and convenient. We are a step closer.

My understanding about a potential Ingram Micro deal is that IM would share revenue with the OEMs. I assume that IM would receive a bigger share because: 1) the OEMs would probably have little or no cost and 2) IM has the added leverage and incentive of being the nation's largest distributor of consumer and business software.

Andrew, you made reference to the fact that IM has a lot of leverage. If you meant to suggest that leverage would be useful vis-a-vis OEMs, I would not be concerned about any OEMs trying to interfere with IM and Wave plans. I don't see how this would be any factor except producing icing on the cake for OEMs.

The article also mentioned competition between IM and Dell. This might motivate Dell to make their PCs "Wave Enabled".

The 3/10/98 CNET article about IM did not mention a key strategic factor with the Memphis facility - it is within a few miles of a major FedEx distribution center. This obviously will answer one of the questions pointed out in the article - "Does the channel have the logistical systems to buy hard drives from different places all over the globe?"

Another reason that an IM deal could soon occur is that the Memphis facility is brand new and now would be the time to start imbedding WaveMeters in PCs for IBM, Compaq, HP and others.
