"If you seek Him with all your heart, you will find Him. "If you confess with your
>mouth the Lord Jesus Christ and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from
>the dead, you shall be saved."

That's one of the problems I have with it Emile. By this logic, God is in the position of
offering us salvation from a situation.....etc. etc. etc. etc.

You are missing the simple message of the Gospel. It went right over your head. There is power in the Cross of Christ. The words of men are powerless without Christ. It is not in the endless words of human wisdom that we come to a knowledge of the truth but through the power of the Cross of Jesusj Do you want the reality of the Creator the universe living in you? Do you want Him to recreate your fallen human spirit into His image an likeness? Do you want to be forgiven of all your sins and to be made perfectly righteous just as God himself is righteous and live in the light of that righteousness? Do you want to eliminate all of the darkness that you know is in your heart?
Do you want to be Born Again?

If you have a need and a desire for these things, they are available through simple faith in Jesus Christ Crucified for your sins and raised for your justification. You can have the power of God flooding in your heart through simple and humble faith in Jesus.

If not, you have another season of wrestling with the pigs.

Tom, you are asking questions that in some ways defy logical explanation. What I mean is that Christianity is a belief system, not a rational thing at all. It is a very typical experience, especially once you get to college, to be exposed to professors and philosophers and many other people who are not really very religious. In fact, as I recall statistics show that the more educated people become, the less likely they are to have religious faith. This would particularly apply to the "born again" religions, where a literal interpretation of one version of reality or another is a given, and very difficult to reconcile with rationality, or any of the critical thinking skills one develops in young adulthood.

Have you heard of the Baha'i faith? Or considered looking into Buddhism? Or talked to highly educated Catholics who have been able to reconcile logic and their religious belief systems? It is very possible to maintain your spirituality in general even though you may end up rejecting the religion which was given to you in childhood.

Here is an interesting url on the Baha'i, which appeal to me because they recognize all the great prophets, Jesus among them, but believe in peace between people of various religions:
