I'm just a novice but would it not be foolish for WDC to be over dependant on IBM for GMR heads since IBM is also a competitor of WDC?? Would that not always give IBM a cost advantage that they themselves could control over WDC? How far off do You think the transition over to GMR is? I think IBM said they may start selling WDC GMR heads sometime in the first half of calender 1999, I believe this will be a non exclusive agreement. Doesn't that give RDRT some lead way since MR product cycle is just starting? Have similar agreements for heads been made with WDC in the past? I believe IBM is fairly new in the oem head business.
