Bob, We have discussed that once before, it seems to me, and the answer (if I recall correctly) was that "mostly" mask prices do not fall over time. The exception cited was possibly when they are able to reduce the cost of producing a mask, they will pass on the savings to the chip-maker. Finding ways to reduce costs then helps a photomask supplier in the competition with other suppliers.
Hope I have caught the essense of it there.. open for more comment. TSO

Bob, I haven't been able to uncover much but it seems the
non-leading edge masks continue to have some price appreciation.
The past five years this has been the case.

This seems counter intuitive. I'd think once no longer at
the leading edge the price would drop off. Much like computer prices.

Does user demand coupled with a limited number of
photomask suppilers maintain an upward bias in these low
to mid end masks prices ? The trend could change
- unforseen by *industry experts*.

If that's the case I'll bet the same happens to DPMI's
stock price. <g>

Good luck digging up some info,
