Vienna Systems Introduces New IP Telephony Client -- No PC or Gateway Required; IPShuttle and IPCourier Round Out Vienna's End-to-End IP Telephony Solution

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 5, 1998--Enhancing its comprehensive family of IP telephony products, Vienna Systems Corporation today announced IPShuttle, the first analog-to-Ethernet network peripheral that allows standard telephones to connect to an IP network; and IPCourier, a multifunction LAN phone.
Because these devices are centrally managed, they offer service providers a more cost-effective way to deliver IP Telephony services today and compete in a market that, according to Killen & Associates, will reach $63 billion in revenues by the year 2002.
"Vienna provides an end-to-end IP telephony solution that provides a wide breadth of flexibility in the way service providers are deploying capabilities to help their customers reduce costs and enjoy the benefits of value-added services," said Kent Elliott, president and chief executive officer of Vienna Systems. "IPShuttle and IPCourier present new opportunities to enhance the flexibility for service providers to get into the IP Telephony market. Both products are especially important to cable companies who are now in a strategic position to offer voice service to their customers."

IPShuttle

IPShuttle is a small analog-to-Ethernet adapter that lets standard telephones communicate over IP networks directly, operating independently of a PC. Each IPShuttle is capable of handling two separate telephone circuits.
It features Vienna's DSP-based Embedded ClientSide Module (ECM), providing analog inputs for basic telephone devices as well as a 10BaseT network interface connection. It supports local telephones and tone plans in North America, Asia and Europe. Existing telephony features such as Caller ID and Call Waiting are also included.

IPCourier

IPCourier is a powerful multi-line Ethernet LAN phone that enables service providers to offer business class IP Telephony over IP networks through a direct connection without the need of a PC or intermediary device. In addition to its stand-alone capability, the phone can be linked to a corporate user's PC on a network so it functions as one integrated business tool for call directories and other telephony functions.
To accelerate the commercialization of IP Telephony network peripherals, Vienna is licensing its Embedded ClientSide Module (ECM) technology, used in the IPShuttle and IPCourier, to select third parties.
"The advent of IP Telephony has spurred an urgent need for complementary products that allow IP-based services to be delivered to the end user," said Hilary Smith, Managing Director of Vienna's ClientSide Division. "We believe that these two new products will provide powerful and cost-effective solutions for service providers to extend IP Telephony easily into a home or business environment."
