An Eye-Full of The Show's Hottest Technology - Gigabit Ethernet

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 5, 1998-- The Gigabit Ethernet
Alliance today announced that it has assembled the largest and most
diverse exhibition of Gigabit Ethernet products ever in its booth at
the NetWorld+Interop show in Las Vegas, Nevada this week. The collection includes
over 80 products representing 28 vendor companies. Attendees can see new
products as well as second and third generation products representing all product
categories including: Layer 2 and Layer 3 switches, routers, full-duplex repeaters,
network interface cards (NICs), network test equipment, optics and IC
components, and network management products.

The Alliance will also be hosting a Quick Hit Session entitled "Preparing for Gigabit
Ethernet" on Wednesday, May 6th from 6:00 - 7:30pm. It will also host a
Birds-of-a-Feather Session on Wednesday from 8:00 - 10:00pm entitled "Out of the
Lab and Onto the Network." Both sessions will be held at the Las Vegas Hilton
hotel.

"The sheer volume of products being exhibited illustrates the tremendous depth and
breadth of Gigabit Ethernet products available today," commented Tony Lee,
Chairman of the Gigabit Ethernet Alliance and Product Line Manager at Extreme
Networks. "The Alliance's comprehensive display of equipment from all product
categories offers end users the luxury of choice in product selection and
demonstrates the stability of the draft standard."

In its booth, number 2565 in the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center,
the Gigabit Ethernet Alliance has built a plug and play technology demonstration.
The booth network is connected to the Gigabit Ethernet InteropNet backbone and
the VendorNet, which provides connectivity for the entire show. These connections
serve as proof points of the technology's interoperability, its ability to support
mission-critical applications and of the maturity of its products.

The market is reporting widespread adoption of the technology by corporate
networks worldwide. A broad selection of industries are embracing Gigabit
Ethernet and realizing tremendous results. Industries include: biotechnology,
education, entertainment, healthcare, imaging, publishing, technology manufacturing,
utilities and energy, to name a few. Over 15 customers of member companies have
come forward to share their praise of the technology and share their results.
