Brian, re< Pentium MMX boost>
Although he is a puny joker on this thread, there
is some truth in this statement. Significant discounts
on stale and discontinued Pentium-MMX parts did
create a one-time opportunity for some PC vendors.
For example, local SAM's Clubs (part of WalMart)
stock a variety of Compaq models, ranging from
K6-233 to P-II-300 and above (for $3000++).
However, the best seller is some Pionex PC
which sells for $899 (15" monitor included).
Looking at a pile of conveniently stacked Pionex
boxes versus other models, the Pionex P-233MMX
outsells everything else at least as 4:1.

Conclusion: sub-$1000 market become an undisputed
mainstream, all high-priced Intels will be eventually
discounted to this level, at Intel expense. Bye-bye
high Intel's margins, probably forever.
