Ericsson Awarded $300 Million GSM Expansion Agreement in Turkey

STOCKHOLM, Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 4, 1998--Ericsson has been awarded a framework agreement for further expansion of the Turkcell GSM network, valued at close to $300 million.

The agreement represents a turnkey project including new radio base stations, AXE switching equipment and services. Deliveries and installation will start immediately and the project is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.

''We appreciate Ericsson's actual and active involvement in Turkcell's fast development pace. Turkcell will obtain a stronger
infrastructure and gain a competitive edge with this new agreement and we can continue being a worldwide leader with Ericsson's GSM 900 systems and services,'' said Mr. Cuneyt Turktan, Turkcell's Chief Executive Officer.

Turkcell is the largest GSM operator in Turkey. The company has been in operation since February 1994 and currently has 1.3 million subscribers, which is 76 percent of the total market. This agreement is part of the company's intent to retain its leading position in a competitive market.
