Alex,

I'll get to the rest of your post later, but want to say now that I believe you are mistaken in saying that 90% of the Rongelap population have contracted cancer. Where did this data come from?

I'm well aware of the the impacts of our nuclear testing in the Marshall Islands, it's all discussed in my report on cleanup costs:

D.I. Chanin and W.B. Murfin (1996), "Site Restoration: Estimation of Attributable Costs from Plutonium-Dispersal Accidents," SAND96-0957, Sandia National Laboratories. (avail. from NTIS or by e-mail)

Our primary sources on Rongelap are these:

National Academy of Sciences (1994), "Radiological Assessments for Resettlement of Rongelap in the Republic of the Marshall Islands,"
National Academy Press.

R.G. Cuddihy and G.J. Newton (1985), "Human Radiation Exposures Related to Nuclear Weapons Industries," LMF-112, Inhalation and Toxicology Research Institute, Albuquerque, NM. (avail. from NTIS)
