*AV*--I am not sure how much more I can add to the UTEK/ISI merger that already hasn't been said. However, it is my opinion that the track systems from ISI will not fit into the picture and will either be sold off or dropped. The merger of the two types of steppers would allow UTEK to provide its own mix-and-match solution for advanced technology without being beholden to any other company and not at the mercy of any other company. They can deliver the total package solution. Nest trick if they can pull it off.

On the ASMLF front, I have a few observations that I would like others to comment on, if they can add to the "database". On a trip over to the Pacific Rim to visit potential IC manufacturing FOUNDRY companies like TSMC, Chartered, etal. for 0.25u technology and below, my contacts have fed back to me that ASMLF is not going to fare too well.
These foundry companies seem to be leaning extremely heavily towards the Nikon and Canon systems due to a lack of confidence in the ASMLF product offering. Comments like Alignment registration issues, optics, and a few other things were bounced around. Ordinarily I would give little weight to this but other events seem to indicate all may not be as it seems.

MOT Fab14 may not be replacing its Canon systems with ASMLF systems. The new MOT facility on the East Coast may be choosing Canon as their DUV system of choice. INTC is still up in the air but I do not think they are even considering ASMLF as a supplier of systems and may be going with Nikon. I do not want to get into an INTC debate so, in fariness to SVGL, they may still be a player. I am only seeing strength for ASMLF in the European marketplace. The guys at Symbios Logic in Colorado Springs who have ASML5500 systems (non DUV) seem to be having alignment issues also. I haven't gotten feedback on the DUV system yet.

I really do like ASMLF but certain caution flags are beginning to pop up. The only way I know how to really keep a handle of things is probably through CYMI. CYMI is still telling us, quarterly, the percentage of their units going to their customers. By tracking the mix between Nikon, Canon, ASMLF, and SVGI we can determine if market share is shifting away from ASMLF.
