Steve-- Little experience only-- the last time I have looked up a chart was yesterday. 1870 on composite which I selected did become a point also 1118-- if 1130 and 1118 or 1870 become like anyother points I will think twice before posting -- it would be time to retire Steve. Levels need to be respected by the markets. On Mathematics - so let me reveal a small secret-some of the proprietry trades- Convertaible/warrant arbitrage- Gamma- Converts and warrants are cheap way of buying gamma- An example of gamma position- bonds in Kalgoorlie 7.5% 2000. Bought it at bond floor. Statistical arbitrage- $ neutral long/short stock portfoilios in CAC 40 and FTSE. Systems trading based on mean reverting strategies. $ neutral intraday long/ short portfolios CAC 40- system based on mean reverting and momentum strategies. Index addition/deletion trades. Exploiting predictable performance of index arbitrage and index funds. Dividend equalisation pact arbitrage- The trade to take benfit of tax treatment of investors in different countries. You take advantage of potential /actual changes in tax regimes. like Shell v/s Royal Dutch. These and others would need a seperate thread but mathematics is ofcourse a good subjest and trading with mathematical models is the cutting edge of markets. I had today with me some of the finest man in the industry on derivatives and options and Steve it was an experience to be with them. True knowledge is to know how little one knows-- we are atleast trying to learn and make things look straight. I try to put all my experience with best of my ability and I feel good about that, bottom line is selfless sharing. I dream that one day my young boys will reap the reward as they come in the world to learn, some good man will teach them. I with my limitations can only say I tried also.
