Risk,
I was stationed at the embassy in Jakarta in '75-78. I think I know the people. It is a country of thousands of islands. One of our priorities was to provide radio equipment for these islands to communicate first, the election tallies for the presidential elections and thereafter common communication.
To those who are unfamiliar with the revolution in 1965, it was a bloodbath, the Chinese being particular targets: they held the pursestrings. Hundreds of thousands were killed. They don't like Chinese because they hold the money in the country.
When I first got into DGIV and learned that it was negotiating with Indonesia, my first thought was: omygod, here we have a falling economy , rupiah down and the riots. But, then, I realized Jimmy Chin was negotiating, I assume Chinese; he's got contacts and even though there was the possibility that the government might be overthrown-----they will still need COMMUNICATION. I am not worried at all.
