Advantage Orbital.

Ref: ECCO Systems Vs Ellipso.

PK and everyone:

I was wondering what y'all thought about Orbi choosing ECCO systems instead of Ellipso.Any comments will be appreciated.

I for one, think selecting ECCO system is very advantageous to ORBI and their over all strategy and following are some of the reasons that come to mind, based on of course available data.

1)

ECCO systems appears to be more focused than Ellipso as we don't even know what their strategy is.One example is their recent decision to deploy a bigger and expensive system deviating from their original plan.Another example is their dealings with Orbital Sciences, though orbital was announced as the prime contractor their dealing with Orbital indicates lack of professionalism and management ineptitude.Ellipso strategy looks murky and lacks clarity.

2)

ECCO SYS.on the other hand seems to know exactly what they want to do in terms of geographical coverage, expenditure, pricing etc. Orbital's association with a company with a clear vision is always preferable to one that lacks clear-cut strategy and vision.

3)

Cost-The cost of implementing ECCO Sys is less than that of Ellipso by over 1/2 a billion dollars, giving a ECCO Sys an advantage in the overall business strategy.

4)
ECCO SYS: Target market consists of 75 countries and 1.5 billion people of under-served areas of the world, where the highest growth in telephony is expected.

5)
Pricing: ECCO SYS: pricing seems rather competitive at $00.50-$1.00/minute is easier to sell than $3.00/min Iridium service,as for Ellipso I don't think they even know what their pricing is going to look like.Obviously it has to be higher since their's is more expensive systems, and Iridium's is even higher with their 4 billion dollar system. For Iridium and Ellipso to break even it will take more subscribers at a higher per minute rate, which is harder to achieve than than a low cost system with a lower per minute pricing, competitors wider coverage notwithstanding.

6)
With this association with ECCO SYS,Orbital is suddenly a full fledged, low cost provider of fixed and mobile telephony and a whole other variety of products and services, where as the the competitors are clearly not as they lack orbi's depth and expertise in a multitude of products and services which cost a lot less.

The winner therefore in my books is Orbital Science,no doubt about it or could I be wrong???????

I agree with you regarding the competition...I bought some IRIDF this week. The TA I did proclaims that IRIDF is going to break higher in the near future, so I jumped in before getting a handle on the fundamentals (I love their price/book value ratio, however). Talk about irresponsible. On the other hand, ORBI went up >20% while I was performing due diligence & raising capital, and I didn't want that to happen again.

I think ORBI is a fine company in an exciting sector, and I'm doubly glad for the reassurances I get here. It just chafes my butt that I'm in the red because of some rumors of rising interest rates!
