DaiS,

It's just fine to own PFE. Unfortunately in the past we Vivus longs have had to deal with some PFE longs with an "attitude" ie just coming on this thread to spout some in your face remarks.

What is a short. A short is where you borrow the stock and sell it with the hope that it will go down. Eventually one will cover the short or buy the stock back. There has been much discussion as to the effect on Vivus stock price because 1/2 the float is held in short positions. When the shorts cover, they will put buying pressure on the stock and thus drive up the price. A short squeeze is where people intentionally buy a stock (regardless of fundamentals) in order to put pressure on the shorts to cover which drives up the stock's price. Vivus has been in a tug of war of sorts between longs and shorts. Looks like the negative news on Viagra probably caused buying and some short covering but I'm sure that there is plenty more short covering to come.
