I2O royalties will be for IxWorks, not VxWorks. I think in the November Conference call WIND management said they wanted to see two quarters worth of I2O royalties before including them in earnings estimates. At the February conference call they said Intel I2O (IxWorks) royalties would begin appearing in Q1, with Digital Equipment I2O royalties beginning in mid-year. Some analysts may already be including I2O in their earnings estimates.

IxWorks is a major product for WIND, and the ramp-up rate and future sales levels are of keen interest to WIND shareholders. It is like a potential blockbuster drug for a pharmaceutical company -- that is why we will be watching closely as the year progresses.

The exciting thing that Allen keeps harping on is the expanding scope of new uses for I2O. Sort of like a drug or surgical procedure being approved by the FDA for additional indications. Consider today's press release on that RAID controller from Mylex, which is another hint that I2O will be pushed out onto the desktop...
