ERICSSON SIGNS THE FIRST GSM CONTRACT IN ETHIOPIA

Ericsson has been awarded a contract by Ethiopian Telecommunications
Corporation covering turnkey solutions for the GSM network in
Ethiopia. The contract marks the first mobile network in the country
and it will serve initially 36,000 subscribers in the Addis Ababa
area.

"It all started with Ericsson that came to Ethiopia already in
1894," says Minister of Transport and Communications H.E. Dr. Abdul
Majeed Hussein.

The contract includes GSM Switching System and Base Station System
and micro wave transmission equipment as well as related services.
The network will be implemented by Ericsson and it will be in
service by the end of 1998.

Ericsson began it's African operations in Ethiopia more than 100
years ago. Today the company has 370,000 AXE lines contracted in
Ethiopia.

Ericsson has now delivered GSM networks to Ethiopia, South Africa,
Botswana, Zimbabwe, Morocco, Madagascar, Libya and Ghana offering
GSM subscribers worldwide international roaming possibilities to and
from the African continent.

GSM is the world's most widely deployed digital wireless
communications standard. Ericsson is the market leader in GSM
worldwide, with almost half the world's 80 million GSM subscribers
connected by Ericsson systems. More than 110 network operators in
some 60 countries around the world rely on Ericsson's GSM systems.

Ericsson's 100,000 employees are active in more than 130 countries.
Their combined expertise in fixed and mobile networks, mobile phones
and infocom system makes Ericsson a world-leading supplier in
