From my humble example, it appears that many roads lead to Rome. KO, G, MSFT, BMY were mentioned. What do these firms have in common? They are leaders in their field with extremely consistent, well defined, mid to high teens earnings growth that are all relatively recession resistant. If you don't like to pick individual companies, SPY(the Standard and Poors Depository Trust) should do just fine-it almost always beats 80% of portfolio managers anyway.
