You must NOT be a developer. Microsoft hasn't hampered a software company's (or individual's) ability to be innovative. The companies that seem to get hurt are trying to develop apps of the past instead of focusing their energy / creativity elsewhere.

I use to develop PC utilities and OEMed one of my products to IBM / Norton / Geoworks. The PC utility market is healthy for companies like Symantec, but many little companies that didn't refocus are now hurting (example: QDEK). On the other hand, my partner and I refocused ourselves to writing custom accounting packages and we have NEVER made more money in all our working lives!
