Intel invested big in videoconferencing and application sharing technology a couple of years ago and tied that technology to ISDN. They invested big dollars in the marketing campaign and teamed up with the regional Bells but the demand just wasn't there and ISDN just wasn't robust enough to handle the applications. Fast forward to the present and an established ATM, technology almost custom built for different forms of media. Don't be suprised if we all have video conferencing and application sharing and ATM on our desktop soon thanks to this Intel/FORE relationship. It could be a defacto standard on all new PCs just like CD ROMS and sound cards have become. Videoconferencing may yet be the "killer app" for ATM and with Intel as the partner, we may soon be talking about who FORE should buy to complement their voice capabilities rather than vice versa. Who said ATM on the desktop was dead?
