If I were Jon Diamond, Vice Chairman of N2K, I might say something to Reuters like.... "We don't consider them a competitor. They have a business selling products on television so now people think they're magically transformed into an Internet player but it takes a lot more." (That's exactly what he said to Reuters.)

If I were Jon Diamond I might also say to myself, after reviewing K-Tel's Web site....Goodness, that's awfully good for a newcomer to the Internet. In many ways it's better than ours. (That's actually Ron Sirch's opinion after spending time on both.) I wonder if anyone will pay any attention to them? So many other companies are selling music on the Web. But they had a MILLION site visits in the first three days! That's almost a magical transformation!. How the hell does a new guy on the block do that? No wonder Wall Street is so crazed about Internet commerce. And K-Tel does seem to be awfully good at marketing. They sure have lined up the right partnerships. Probably more to come. Maybe they will become a competitor worthy of our concern after all. Better get back to the drawing board.
